VISIT OUR LOVELY VILLAGE www.tourisme-pernes.fr/en/what-to-see-and-do/visit-pernes
You can understand radiance of our historical village by knowing that Pernes was the capital of Comtat Venaissin for almost three centuries, until 1320. Comtat Venaissin is the aristocratic part of Provence, where catholic popes used to live in Avignon before Roma. An area stretching from Mont Ventoux to the Vaucluse Mountains, and bordered to the west by the Rhone and the Durance. Pernes remparts on picture.
LA MARGELLE +33 (0)4 90 40 18 54
Place Aristide Briand, 84210 Pernes-les-Fontaines
Restaurant on the village place, at 5 minutes by walk from home. The food offers a good mediterranean choice. For lunch or diner, you eat at summer time in the charming garden, under the plane trees, lighted by the boho strings of lights. But the best is the warmful ambiance, you'll be most of the time welcomed by Jerome, a theater character, his sens of humor and his fantasy brings a lot of people from everywhere.
AU FIL DU TEMPS +33 (0)4 90 30 09 48

The second restaurant of the village we like to go sometimes. Gastronomic unique menu, you don't have choice ... of course the chef adapts to allergies or tastes if needed. We recomend to go by walk and watch the day menu. Fresh local products. Charming artistic decoration.
Small restaurant, so booking is highly recomended.
LA MAISON PERNOISE Decoration concept store.
In the heart of the village, with a tasteful choice. WE LOVE IT. You'll think many pieces in our home come from their store, actually a very few as I work directly with manufacturers of Maison & Objets, but we have obviously same tastes for boho ambiance.
Visit it just after a stop at the covered market in the morning "Les halles" just next to their store.
AU FIL DE FER

THE DOOR OF ORANGE in Carpentras
Carpentras capital of Venaissin County possesses a rich historical heritage: The door of Orange, the Episcopal Palace, the St Siffrein Cathedral, Hotel Dieu and its superb pharmacy of the eighteenth century, the mansions of the seventeenth and eighteenth. The Synagogue, built in 1367 and remodeled in the 18th century by architect Antoine D'German, is the oldest in France, still active.
Huge fairground Market on Friday morning.
CATHEDRALE SAINT-SIFFREIN
3 Place Saint-Siffrein, Carpentras.
Beautiful roman catholic church. A secret well kept, if you go on the front left of the chuch, behind a gate, you can light a small room where rare religious relics, nails from the crucifiction, are kept. They are exposed once per year, but with a smiling request and a pray, they might show you the treasure.
CHEZ SERGE +33 (0)4 90 63 21 24
90 Rue Cottier 84200 CARPENTRAS
In the center of Carpentras, a town at 10 min by car from Pernes, is established the famous Serge, the truffle's king. Very good mediterranean menu, if you like truffles, don't miss their special menu. It's one of our favourite restaurants in a close area. Summer white truffle or winter black truffle, according to the seasons. The Carpentras truffles market is famous. The table in the courtyard next to the old fountain is the most romantic for a lovers diner.
JOUVAUD +33 (0)4 90 63 21 24

A fantastic pastry shop we have always known in Carpentras center where you can eat, have a drink, and fill your straw basket with lovely decoration items.
Also in l'isle sur Sorgue, Avignon, and Tokyo!
Everything is absolutely a temptation... huge home made meringues, glass jars are full of best french sweets, candied fruits, organic bread. But the must, our favourite tart in all the area is the "coup de soleil" a kind of chiboust cream on apricots from Roussilon. Heaven! Go early to get a chance to get them.

a delicious gastronomic restaurant hidden in the heart of l'isle sur sorgues, in walking streets. Better for a romantic evening diner. Book a table in the outside courtyard.
For lunch we prefer the "Carré d'Herbes" in a garden in the middle of antique stores, or an afternoon tea at Jouvaud pastry shop, a must.
LE CARRÉ D'HERBES +33 (04) 90 38 23 97

A very good restaurant in the middle of antique shops. On market days, the week-ends, it's better to book your table. Menu is delicious, and at sunny days, tables outside are charming.
A place we love to go for lunch, probably lovely also for diners.
LE JARDIN DU QUAI +33 (04) 90 20 14 98
91 Avenue Julien Guigue, 84800 L'ISLE SUR SORGUES
At the end of main street, in front of another interesting antiques village, you will find this lovely hidden garden with poetic atmosphere. The chef cooks very well, my only hesitation to go there more often is that they have a unique menu wich changes regularly but I personnaly like to get the choice. Otherwise, they also have a casual small bistrot next door, charm & home made food.

THE POPES PALACE
Listed as a World Heritage Site by Unesco, the Popes' Palace is one of the 10 most visited monuments in France. A true symbol of the influence of Western Christianity in the 14th century, this 15,000m2 masterpiece of a monument is the largest medieval fortress and biggest gothic palace of Europe. Built in less then 20 years starting in 1335, the Popes' Palace is the amalgamation of two palaces built by two popes: Benedict XII, who built the Old Palace to the east and north, and his successor Clement VI who built the New Palace to the south and west.
THE AVIGNON BRIDGE
Known worldwide thanks to the classic song "Sur le Pont d'Avignon" - was built in the 12th century and for a long time was the only bridge across the Rhone south of Lyon. A large part of the bridge was swept away in the 17th century, and has not been rebuilt since.

On the way, the restaurant Philip, in a "guinguette" open-air dance hall style, serves fresh local products in front of a lovely waterfall and a green river. Gordes is about 20 to 25 min of car from Pernes. It's one of the famous perched Luberon village, mainly for its stone houses, because don't expect a busy place.

Under an hour from the Luberon is the striking city of Arles, most famous for its superb Roman remains (and accordingly a UNESCO World Heritage site).
